A couple of interesting snippets of information arrived via Twitter yesterday afternoon - both of them from in and around Aberlady. A non food related one came from Duck's Restaurant and said that a long eared owl was in Aberlady at that time. I say non food related because I dont think it would be possible to eat a long eared owl (let's not go there) but it would have been good to see it.From a foodie point of view, the other tweet was far more interesting. This one was from the excellent Gosford Bothy Farm Shop and said 'Just in. Wild East Lothian Chanterelle Mushrooms. Only 12 x 100g tubs available!'
Chanterelles are the bright orange mushrooms and despite their exotic, French name, they grow particularly well in Scotland.
I didn't get any but I'll be on the lookout (in the farm shops) over the weekend to see if I can find more.
There's a million and one things that you can do with them but to get their true flavour at its best I recommend that you simply saute them gently in butter with a little olive oil (to stop the butter burning) and serve them with an omelette.
What could be easier for a meal that can be served at breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or supper?
